Quercus robur

Millworks European Oak cladding is sourced exclusively from Europe, ensuring a consistent and high end product. Kiln dried for stability, highly durable and a specially selected grade. Millworks European Oak cladding will elevate any project, from the traditional to the contemporary.

  • Grade: A/B Grade (QF-2/3)
  • Widths: 140mm
  • PEFC certified
  • Density: 700kg / m³

European Oak has been used for many years due to its fantastic durability and attractive, light look. Left untreated Oak will weather to a subtle silver/grey.

Despite being a traditional cladding material, with relatively few knots Oak lends itself to a contemporary look.

European Oak is very dense at 700kg per m3. This characteristic makes it hard wearing, perfect for exposed elevations or high traffic areas. Suited to commercial projects, or residential alike.

Oak cladding has a maintenance free service life, due to natural resin and extracts in the wood. The high density makes it one of the toughest and most durable claddings available. European Oak is to BS EN 350-2 Class 2.

Oak cladding is dimensionally stable due to careful kiln drying at source, making the moisture content optimum for its intended environment, which also achieves a superior finish when machined. Please see our advised profiles.

  • Grade A/B (QF-2/3)

This grade of European Oak has a limited amount of knots, most boards not exceeding 25mm knots resulting in a selective, relatively consistent look. Kiln dried and machined to minimise Sapwood.

Fire Retardant for Timber

FRX Exterior fire retardant can be applied to European Oak cladding when specified, to comply with national Building Regulations where Euroclass B or C are required. Applied under controlled conditions in a vacuum pressure timber impregnation plant. The treatment complies with ISO accreditation, which does not compromise critical properties such as strength, durability, corrosivity and hygroscopicity.

Alternatively, HR-Prof can be applied on site, a fire retardant that complies with Euroclass B or C for spread of flame, offering a quicker and sometimes more economical option.

Weathering or Finishing

If left untreated, in the correct conditions European Oak will weather to a subtle silver-gray.

Although naturally durable, Oak can be finished for protection against the elements, which will keep it looking consistent on all elevations of your project. Millworks can advise on different options for protecting your timber.

OSMO UV-Protection will prevent Oak cladding from weathering. Or, OrganoWood can be applied to accelerate the weathering process, resulting in a more consistent silver-grey on all elevations

Stainless-steel cladding fixings should be used because natural oils in the timber have a corrosive effect on ferrous metals.
