REDWOOD (THERMOWOOD) PANELLING
Thermo D. (Redwood) Pinus sylvestris
Millworks internal Thermowood panelling and battening is sourced from carefully selected Redwood, from leading Finnish sawmills. Manufactured in-house to match any profile, enabling harmonious flow from inside to outside.
Natural, thermal modification enhances the wood’s textures resulting in a desirable dark brown, which is incredibly stable and durable making this product perfect for internal and external specification. PEFC™ certified.
Innovative
Thermowood is heat treated in a unique modification process, reaching temperatures of over 212c. Chemical and physical properties and texture in the timber change permanently, making it perfect for internal panelling, external cladding and exterior decking.
Consistent
Thermowood is dark brown throughout, giving it an attractive and consistent look. Once planed to a profile Thermowood has a very smooth finish due to the very low moisture content. This makes it perfect for adding additional texture, different treatment options and coatings.
Durability
Thermowood is naturally heat treated, which modifies and enhances the timber making it naturally durable and very stable. Thermowood achieves BS EN 350-2 Class 2 for durability, giving it a long service life – perfect for matching interior and exterior projects.
Stability
Thermowood is less likely to warp, twist or cup due to the inability to absorb or lose moisture caused from the thermal modification process, this can be used for a range of interior and external applications, giving options for different timber sections and intricate profiling.
Millworks A/B Grade
Selective Scandinavian Redwood is chosen for tight sound knots. Millworks A/B Grade has a darker brown tone. Its durability and stability are improved significantly.
In external applications BS EN 335 Use Class 3, Thermowood meets the requirements of durability BS EN 350 Class 2.
DURABILITY CLASS 2, SUITABLE FOR EXTERIOR USE (BS EN 350-2)
In addition to our standard planed finish, surface texture can be added to create accentuated depth to the timber grain. Surface textures are recommended when coatings are applied to improve performance and enable enhanced adhesion and longevity.
In the correct conditions, Thermowood will weather to a silver-grey, if left untreated.
Although naturally durable, Thermowood can be finished for protection against the elements. This will keep it looking consistent on all elevations of your project. Millworks can advise on different options for protecting your timber.
Coatings can be applied under controlled factory conditions with Millworks state of the art finishing line. Alternatively, on-site products can be advised and supplied.
FRX Exterior fire retardant can be applied to Thermowood cladding when specified, to comply with national Building Regulations where Euroclass B or C are required. Applied under controlled conditions in a vacuum pressure timber impregnation plant. The treatment complies with ISO accreditation, which does not compromise critical properties such as strength, durability, corrosivity and hygroscopicity.
Specifically manufactured stainless-steel fixings, available in secret-fix, face-fix or clip systems, are designed for Millworks® timber cladding and decking profiles. Our fixings ensure long service life for best performance of the timber and coatings in any location. Full details available on specification data sheet.
