SOUTHERN GRANDIS CLADDING
Eucalyptus Grandis
Southern Grandis is an FSC® plantation grown, clear grade hardwood and exclusive to Millworks in the UK. Trees are ready to harvest once grown up to 70 metres tall and up to 250cm wide, based on a 23-30 year rotation. This means that its incredibly sustainable and the fibre produced is consistent; perfectly suited for high-end use.
Sustainability
Southern Grandis timber products fly the FSC® flag and support scientific, social and climate change. Quick rotation, plantation grown timber ensures vast carbon capture, biodiversity and protection of indigenous forests. Also, new strains can be grown on arid areas areas helping give back to communities and protect against soil erosion.
Appearance
Straight grained, with a fine texture, Southern Grandis is mostly vertical grain for a consistent appearance. Colours vary from rose pink, light white to dark red.
Innovation
5th generation seedlings provide the best genetic material available to produce Southern Grandis enabling responsible, continuous adaption for changing climates, drought, soil type, disease and quality of timber. Southern Grandis is BS EN 350-2 Class 3.
Stability
Southern Grandis is dimensionally stable due to controlled kiln drying at source, making the moisture content optimum for its intended environment, which also achieves a superior finish when machined, textured and coated.
Millworks FAS
Firsts and Seconds hardwood grade, largely clear boards – minimum defect cutting required.
In addition to our standard planed finish, surface texture can be added to create accentuated depth to the timber grain. Surface textures are recommended when coatings are applied to improve performance and enable enhanced adhesion and product longevity.
In the correct conditions, Southern Grandis will weather to a silver-grey, if left untreated. Although naturally durable, Grandis can be finished for protection against the elements. This will keep it looking consistent on all elevations of your project. Millworks can advise on different options for protecting your timber.
Coatings can be applied under controlled factory conditions with Millworks state of the art finishing line. Alternatively, on-site products can be advised and supplied.
Specifically manufactured stainless-steel fixings, available in secret-fix, face-fix or clip systems, are designed for Millworks® timber cladding and decking profiles. Our fixings ensure long service life for best performance of the timber and coatings in any location. Full details available on specification data sheet.
