OrganoWood®
Surface Treatment System
OrganoWood® surface treatment system offers improved protection and long lasting durability for timber with a beautifully weathered finish. Using patented technology that modifies wood at a molecular level, OrganoWood® coated timber acquires a natural and uniform silver-grey appearance, providing robust protection against adverse weathering and fungal decay.
How does OrganoWood® treatment work?
Step 1 – Protection
The first step of the coating system binds silicon compounds to the wood fibres, creating a physical surface barrier that provides enhanced protection against rot and fungal decay. The silicon mimics the natural fossilisation process, encapsulating the wood fibres to form a much harder surface compared to untreated timber, effectively making the fibres inaccessible to fungi. This process is activated by direct UV exposure and as such the timber gradually transforms to a silver-grey colour over time.
Step 2 – Repellent
The second step of the OrganoWood® coating system utilises water-repellent technology to create a hydrophobic surface on the timber. This significantly reduces surface moisture and prevents the build up of waterborne dirt, extending the timber’s lifespan. The treatment penetrates deeply into the wood, forming a robust barrier that allows the timber to endure harsh weather conditions while maintaining its structural integrity for an extended period.

Sustainability & Maintenance
Sustainability
OrganoWood® treatments are non-toxic and do not contain harmful chemicals. Coatings used in both the first and second steps are water-based and consist of natural plant substances and silicon minerals. The OrganoWood® surface treatment system is free from biocides and heavy metals making them safe for humans, animals, and the environment across a variety of applications.
Maintenance
The greying process may vary depending on where the timber is sited, elevation and how exposed it is to the weather. When general cleaning or maintenance washing is required Millworks recommends OrganoWood® organic wood cleaner to remove surface dirt. High pressure washing should be avoided and in cases where significant wear has occurred (high traffic areas such as decking), OrganoWood® repellent, step two, can be reapplied for surface protection.
