Do your timber products need a protective coating?
No, our timber products are durable even when left uncoated which means that no protective coating is required if your timber is correctly installed. If you wish to maintain natural colouring or your design specifies opaque colour, we strongly recommend Millcoat® factory coating.
How do I keep my timber from weathering?
Millcoat® Factory coating provides exceptional performance to ensure that your timber is protected from UV-light and other environmental factors that cause timber to weather. Millworks translucent or opaque environmentally friendly, water-based coatings are applied under controlled factory conditions for a consistent finish.
How often do I need to recoat my timber?
Several factors contribute to timber maintenance including exposure, location and elevation. Coatings that have been applied on-site are likely to need re-applying every 1-2 years. Millcoat® factory coatings allow for a longer maintenance programme which is further increased with darker coating colours. Coatings should be cleaned and touched up when weathered spots appear and re-applied to the complete area when required.
Is there a way to lengthen the maintenance of coated timber?
Millworks surface textures not only enhance the natural beauty of timber by extenuating grain pattern, but also provide improved coating performance and longevity. For best coating results we recommend a surface texture is used for greater coating adhesion.
How long will my timber take to weather?
If left uncoated all timber will weather to a silver-grey. Many factors contribute to the weathering process including exposure, location and elevation however as a general rule, you will have started to see a difference within the first 3-6 months.
Is there a coating to speed up the weathering process?
Organowood® is a silicone-based technology which accelerates the weathering process and provides a more consistent silver-grey colour to all elevations. A 2-part coating system ensures that your timber is further protected against rot fungus, dirt and extreme weather patterns.
Do I need a fire treatment?
In certain applications timber cladding may need to be treated for fire protection. If specified for your project, we can provide treatment to Euro Class B & C rating.
