Battening should be installed, recommended at 400-600mm centres to allow for air circulation. Breathable membrane is required as an extra protective barrier for the substrate layer. With some cladding profiles and fixing systems you may also wish to use ventilation strip, designed to compensate for the natural movement of the timber.
With all modern buildings please check Building Regulations for specific requirements.

The main difference is down to aesthetics and whether you wish to see the screw detailing. Secret fixing can only be used on certain profiles, MW2 and MW5, however MW7 can be supplied with a Façade clip system to allow for a secret fixing.

If using our Millfix® fixings you do not need to pre-drill as they have been designed for quick and easy installation. If using other manufacturers fixings, please be sure to check their requirements for pre-drilling.

We always recommend using a stainless-steel screw fixing for improved fastening of timber and clean detailing on your project. However if you decide to use a nail gun, all nails must be stainless steel and be fixed flush to the board to prevent any compromise on durability.

We have a choice of detailing available and can also manufacture bespoke sizing to suit your project. L-trim corner pieces can be installed flush or proud of the cladding. Corner posts and planed all round, square boards can be provided to edge cladding and install as window/door reveals.

Most of our profiles are manufactured with stress relief groves on the reverse side to allow the timber to move without warping, and so have a clear front face. Smooth decking, board-on-board, MW1 & MW6 profiles are double sided allowing the ‘best’ face to be installed onsite. Please note if any double-sided profile boards contain sapwood this must be placed to the reverse of the cladding. Please contact our team to discuss the best profile choice for your project.
