Lyncombe, Extension
Western Red Cedar
Taking pride of place at the rear of the property, the Bath project involved a side and rear extension clad with Western Red Cedar. Offcuts were used to the extension soffit and rear garden fence to ensure minimal wastage and provide cohesion throughout the build.
The installation was not without challenges as it combined a multi-faceted splay and overhang section. Particular attention was given to detailing such as the cladded return into the sliding doors, which is noticeable from different views through the house and reflected delicately in the wide expanse of window. The warm, glowing tones were emphasised by coating with clear Osmo UV Oil.
Naturally resistant to decay, rot and insect damage, Western Red Cedar is celebrated across traditional and contemporary architecture for its exceptional performance. Lightweight and easy to install, its cellular structure offers natural insulation properties which contribute to superior energy efficiency.
It’s fine, straight grain and vibrant array of reddish-brown tones gives Western Red Cedar high aesthetic appeal. This attribute is further enhanced by the addition of a Millcoat factory coating or OSMO finish to maximise the natural beauty of the timber’s rich colouring.
