Thermowood (Redwood)
Created for clients in the process of remodelling their main house, Blyss Garden Rooms designed a multi-functional space that would be used by the homeowners and their children to enjoy their outdoor space. It was important that the annex not only suited the garden, but also would complement the property renovations which will feature black timber cladding.
The design specification asked for unique character and incorporation of a challenging tree-lined area. Shou-sugi-ban was considered for aesthetic purposes, but the client had some questions on the suitability of this finish for a busy garden environment. Thermowood Brushed and Charcoal Black cladding was selected for its product longevity without compromise on the desired finish. This allowed the design to evolve from the cladding choice to also feature black decking and a matching Thermowood privacy screen.
Thermowood® is a thermally modified product with impressive dimensional stability. The innovative modification process uses heat and steam only to enhance the woods natural properties resulting in a durable, low movement timber. This improved stability makes it the perfect base for surface textures and factory coatings.
Although Millworks manufacture timber products that are all naturally durable, we recommend factory coating to provide long-term timber performance and protect from the elements. Millcoat environmentally friendly, water-based coatings are offered in a wide range of colours to suit any project and enrich the natural beauty of timber.
